Friday 16th October – Relaxing start then bike **** sunny - Port la Nautique to Gruissan - 25 .52 miles, out 3 hrs, 23 mph top speed.

We had a great relaxing start with our third beautiful sunrise in a row. We had flamingos in front of the van and a kingfisher flying backwards and forwards and even hovering and diving right in front of us:) Nobody about until 10 when some fishermen arrived and set up just along from us but that wasn’t a problem. We packed up around mid day and went to fill up with water and did some food shopping. Headed round the scenic route of Peyraic and Bages with many more flamingos in the etang – we have never seen so many! We put some air in the tyres on the way round Narbonne and arrived at Port Nautique initially for lunch but decided to stay as it is such a lovely day it seemed a shame to waste it driving. Mag picked up a huge amount of litter for the second time this year in this spot!! Also a lot of windscreen glass:( Such a shame when it is such a beautiful place. After relaxing for a while we set out on the bikes to Mandriac lock on the Canal du Robine. We have done this lovely trip before but this time decided to extend it by going into Gruissan. We cycled out to the beach and windsurfing shop then back and around the town etang. Returned to Mandriac on the new cycle track which we saw earlier in the year but have never been on. Returned to the van just before sunset and it was getting bloomin chilly and a good north easterly breeze made it hard going so pleased to be in the warm! We were out 3 hours and did 20 miles. A cuppa followed by a very tasty Lidl Paella! Amazed to get a bit of internet through the Base Nautique tonight!
